Sandie Kocher: Foster Home Coordinator

I live in Erie, Pa.  I became involved with ABC because I adopted Harry in January 2014 from them and wanted to help the organization if I could.  Shortly after adopting Harry I started fostering for them, was Donations Coordinator briefly and as of October 2016, I am now the Foster Home Coordinator and I thoroughly love doing it!  I will also at times help transport dogs to foster or adoptive homes.

I am a Home Health Aide and currently, I am the Aide/Caregiver to my aging Mom through a state funded program that pays me to be her Aide/Caregiver.  Outside of ABC and working I love photography, especially scenic and wild/domesticated animals.  I also enjoy short trips and day drives with my boyfriend of 15 years Tim.  Spending time with friends and family is also important to me.

Being the Foster Home Coordinator for ABC entails overseeing all the foster homes making sure we get updates on the dogs they are fostering, photos and any needed vetting the dogs may need while in our care.  I am in constant contact with fosters and many vet clinics and sometimes even adopters.  Being a former Vet Tech helps with this position a lot especially when it comes to some of the medical needs and concerns the dogs may have.   It is a time-consuming position but I wouldn’t trade it for the world I love doing it and working closely with our Adoptions Coordinator to get the dogs the best matched Furever home possible.

My family life consists of my Mom (we lost my Dad in 2010)  and of course my boyfriend, Tim.  I also have 4 cats along with two Bassets (Harry and Copper)   All of my pets are rescues.

I am a firm supporter of the underdogs in life…I love helping animals and people when and where and however I can.  Kindness is a gift that is always returned in some way shape or form, maybe not always in the way you thought it would be but it is always returned.
